East Bay Parks #1: Little Sunol | Livermore Photographer

Map of the hike to Little Yosemite in the Sunol Regional Wilderness
To get here, drive past the visitor center lot down Geary Road, and park at one of the many parking lots near the trailheads. This hike was an easy 2.24mi out and back!

In January, we bought an East Bay park pass in hopes of getting outside more this year. Alex and I are fairly active people. I run sometimes, we bike together other times, and we enjoy a good walk around what we’ve affectionately titled “The Livermore Arboretum” (hint: it’s the Arroyo Mocho trail). Hiking is a whole different sort of beast. I get huffy and puffy just going up a flight stairs too fast, something about the climbing motion doesn’t work too well for me! I’m hoping to change that this year though, starting with the East Bay parks. There are some beautiful views out there, right in our backyard!

Hike during golden hour in Little Yosemite, Sunol, CA

The first hike of the year went to Little Yosemite, which is part of the Sunol Wilderness Regional Preserve. I haven’t gotten to Big Yosemite yet this year (fingers crossed for this weekend!), but I’ve heard so much about this little hidden gem tucked away in Sunol that I had to see it for myself. Seems that it’s not much of a “hidden” gem anymore, I guess it’s gotten quite popular over the last few years. But nevertheless, we had a fun time and got some good photos!

It seems like now is the best time to go! All the rain lately makes for some beautiful green landscapes as opposed to the brown we have most of the rest of the year.

  1. I need to be there right with y’all! Stairs get me huffing and puffing too. Time for a change! Love the lighting there at the park. Keep it up!!
